Why we celebrate
MLK Day is the official birthday, and now federal holiday, commemorating the birthday of civil rights activist, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. MLK Day has been celebrated since 1986, however, it has only been officially observed by all fifty states since 2000.
MLK sales and shopping
You may be wondering why the commemoration of a civil rights activist has become a day to shop. This is due to the holiday being observed at a federal level, meaning many employees have the day off.
