2. Clip every Safeway coupon that will help you save on your order.

3. Before you shop, log into your account on the Safeway site, or present your account number at checkout.

If there are no promo codes available …

You can try to use expired Safeway promo codes to see if they still work. You can also see if Safeway sells the same product under their “Signature“ label – Signature products usually cost less. You can also search the CNET site for coupons and sales at other supermarkets.

Combining coupons

Combining coupons at Safeway is sometimes allowed. You can combine a store-issued Safeway for U coupon with one manufacturer’s coupon. Make sure that your Safeway for U coupon says that it is store-issued. Some Safeway for U coupons are issued by the manufacturer and can’t be combined with other coupons.

Using online coupons in stores

Safeway will accept any digital coupon that can be downloaded to your Safeway for U account. When you shop in-store, you can also use internet printed Safeway online coupons as long as they have a UPC code that is printed clearly enough to be read by the scanner. Safeway does not accept photocopied coupons.

Shop the Safeway Black Friday sale to save on holiday foods and grocery staples. In recent years, Safeway has issued a Black Friday coupon saving customers 25% off their total orders.

Public holiday sales

You can typically pick up your groceries on the same day you checked out, and often within three hours of placing your order. Receive up to $30 off your first DriveUp & Go order by applying a Safeway coupon before checkout. You must spend at least $75 to qualify. Discounts obtained via Safeway for U can be used on your DriveUp & Go orders as long as you link both accounts online.

Schedule and save 5%

After selecting your items and how often you want to receive them, you'll shave 5% off of your grocery bill. This subscription service is offered for pickup or delivery and doesn't require any monthly fees to participate. On top of the 5% you'll save with this service, you can also apply extra Safeway coupons to your order for bonus discounts. In addition, you won't be locked into orders. You can alter, cancel, or skip orders to fit your current grocery needs.

Get free delivery

You can get a discount plus free delivery from Safeway with your first delivery order. After that, you’ll pay $9.95 or $12.95 for delivery, depending on the size of your order. You can avoid delivery fees with another Safeway promotion. Get free pick-up with their Drive Up. & Go program.

Safeway for U is the Safeway rewards program. Earn Safeway rewards when you shop for groceries. Each dollar you spend is worth one point, and 100 points are good for one reward. How to get a military discount

Some Safeway stores offer a 10% military discount on the first Saturday of every month. Here's how to receive it:

1. On the first Saturday of the month, shop at Safeway as you normally would.

2. Present your military ID to the cashier, who will deduct 10% from the price of your order.

3. If the cashier doesn’t give you your discount, request it at the customer service desk.

How to get a student discount

Some stores offer a 5% Safeway student discount. After you’ve paid for your groceries, bring your receipt and your student ID to the customer service desk. They will refund 5% of your purchase total. Check with your local store before you shop because not all Safeway stores offer this deal.

Making returns

At most stores, the Safeway return policy allows you to return unopened items as long as you have a receipt and you make your return before the sell-by date on the product. You must return the item to the store where you bought it. You cannot return baby formula, alcohol, or spoiled food.
